Dorn Method

Have you heard about the spine alignment technique called the Dorn Method? It is a gentle form of therapy that aligns the spine and the whole skeletal system.

The system applies gentle manipulation to put the spine back into alignment. The method is not only applied to the spine but to the whole skeletal system easing joint problems. It helps in alleviating back pains, skeletal pains and other chronic conditions.

As compared to Chiropractice, it doesn't employ sudden twisting, cracking or pressure that surprises the muscles rendering them injured or "cautious" the next time. The Dorn Method employs counter pressure or counter weight, which means that as one side is being realigned, the opposite side must be in motion to loosen the muscles so that the vertebra or the spine can be shifted back into its proper alignment more easily and effectively. This means that there is no muscle damage and the repositioning is held better. Each Dorn Method treatment procedure starts from the alignment of the legs, the repositioning of the hip joints, the knees and ankles. After which, the process continues to the whole spine, the collar bones, shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers. You'll feel like a brand new you after a treatment.

These are some of the physical conditions that can be helped by Dorn Method:

-Sciatica
-Back Pains
-Scoliosis
-Joint Pains
-Migraine

Give it a try one of these days. Look for qualified practitioners in your area or you can contact me for more information.

The Philosophy of Alternative Medicine - Why conventional practices have been overtaken by a more holistic approach by Dr. Banchob Junhasavasdikul

The year 2010 means the end of the Millennium's "Noughties".

The past decade has brought about many changes to the lifestyles of people throughout the world, including how they view medical treatment.

So it's no wonder the Millennium has become an era of alternative medicine, where holistic treatment has gained the upper hand over conventional treatment.

In 2000, there was a study comparing alternative treatment and conventional treatment. The researcher asked people which they chose first when they got sick and how much they paid for their treatment.

It was revealed people opted for alternative medicine three times more than conventional medicine, while the expense of conventional medicines was 10 times higher than that of alternatives.

Why do people choose alternative medicine? The answer lies in its nature.

We can compare the characteristics of both medicines as follows:

1. Alternative medicines originated from people, for people, aimed at people helping each other. Conventional medicines are mostly business orientated.

2. The principal idea of alternative medicines is self-healing. What an alternative doctor does is helping patients correct internal and external factors for self-healing. Conventional doctors, however, have never realised the power of self-healing and believe in human intervention. Therefore, drugs are the powerful weapons of conventional medicines.

3. Alternative medicines stress self-reliance. Therefore, along the way to healing, people should change their lifestyle and eating habits. It is the medicine of independence, whereas the conventional medicines are those of dependence. With conventional medicine, people rely totally on hospitals and drugs all their lives.

4. Because alternative medicines stress change, doctors work on guiding people towards their health "destination". Doctor-patient relationships are like a brotherhood. Conventional medicine, however, is something indoctrinated by research, mostly backed by drug companies. Therefore conventional doctors are commanders on the war against diseases. A conventional doctor acts like God in a white gown. He is the one who determines life or death for patients.

5. Because we are composed of body and mind, self-healing needs the adjustment of both, the mind is the master who controls the body. Therefore, alternative medicines consider that mind power plays the major role. It makes up more than 50% in the healing process. If we enhance the patient's mind power, spontaneous healing may occur occasionally. Conventional medicines put a very low value on mind power. The highest role of the mind in conventional medicines is just a supportive factor in the area of psychiatry.

6. Alternative medicine came about through one of the following ways:

- From the folk medicines in communities such as Traditional Medicine in China, Ayuravidics of Indian people, Thai Traditional Medicine of Siam people, American Indian medicines utilising crystals, smoke and feathers.

- From some psychic practices of religious or non-religious communities such as yoga, Qigong, Taichi, Reiki, praying therapy, urine therapy etc.

- From the lateral thinking of conventional doctors who turn their interest towards more natural methods of healing such as Dr Samual Hahnemann, Dr Sagen Ishizuka, Dr Henry S Tanner, Dr Dean Ornich and so on.

The development path of alternative medicine is from practice to theory, whereas conventional medicines develop from theory to practice.

By considering the framework of alternative medicine, we can conclude that the main principal or philosophy is treatment without drugs.

To practice alternative medicine, a doctor should ask whether or not he believes in the philosophy of treatment without drugs. This is the key contradiction to the conventional doctors who attach themselves to drugs unconditionally.

During my time as a conventional medical student, we had a saying: "It would be better to be a dog than a doctor without drugs."

Such a remark embodies the difference between conventional and alternative medicines.

Nevertheless, as time passed, the popularity of alternative medicines in the last decade has deviated from the originas ethos. Such deviations are caused by the following factors:

1. The spread of consumerism makes people cling to their belief that money can buy anything from beauty and youth to cleanliness (detoxification). People don't want to change their lifestyle but prefer a short cut to being healthy - quick, abrupt change, no patience and no sweating.

2. The practitioners themselves have no experience on self-healing, hence they have no faith in natural power. They don't like the hard work of changing a patient's lifestyle. They tend to utilise easier ways, a short cut to healing for their clients.

3. Globalisation has created an era of competition in beauty and anti-aging business orientated firms. Therefore, the territory of alternative medicines is being flooded with vitamins and supplements, detoxifying agents and instruments, modernised psychic detectors and aura rechargers. The health-orientated person is less reliant on himself and turns to alternative doctors who encourage the use of vitamin supplements and technological devices, rather than helping people to change their lifestyle. It's a sad fact that some detoxifying agents or devices haven't been proven for their effectiveness. Some are fake and some are over emphasised.

To summarise, even though the gate-way of alternative medicines has been opened, consumerism has abused both doctors and consumers. They are not as connected to nature as their predecessors who laid the foundations of natural medicines. While they have switched from chemical drugs to vitamins and psychic instruments, they are still on the path of dependency medicines.

This is a great deviation from the philosophy of alternative medicines.

If you are health-orientated or an alternative medicines practitioner, please ask yourselves the most important question. Do you believe in natural healing and the treatment without drugs?

If the answer is yes, then we are companions on the road to alternative medicines.

Alternative health care is indeed gaining popularity nowadays. Should you choose this path, you must have a firm belief in its methods and faith that you are capable of self-healing. Also, choose your alternative healer wisely.

Master Cleanse

Have you thought about doing an internal body cleanse? Another term for that would be body detoxification or simply, detox. The purpose of detox is to free the body of toxins that have accumulated through the years. Effects include weight-loss, freedom from allergies, pain, infections and other illnesses, freedom from fatigue, headaches and others. Some even report miraculous results like curing of hyperacidity, kidney stones, and a whole lot more.

One of the safest cleansing diets would be the Master Cleanse. It was originated by Stanley Burroughs sometime in the 1950’s. Mr. Burroughs is a natural healer way back then. I tried Master Cleanse about a month ago and I experienced great results like clearing of my skin, weight-loss, more energy, clearing of phlegm and others. Having completed it for 10 days was an accomplishment for me. And I will do it again a few months from now. It is the safest and most effective cleansing diet programs that you’ll ever come across.

Master Cleanse requires drinking of a certain lemonade recipe throughout the day and nothing more for a minimum of 10 days. It also requires taking a saltwater flush every morning or taking a diuretic tea every evening. During the time that I was on the Master Cleanse program, I did not feel hungry at all and I didn’t have my usual cravings. It was amazing. In the end, I lost a total of 9 pounds. Beyonce Knowles did her Master Cleanse prior to shooting the movie, “Dreamgirls”. She lost a total of 22 pounds.

I know you’re all eager to know the recipe. Here it is.

Ingredients:
2 liters of pure, filtered water
14 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
10-14 tablespoons of Grade B Maple syrup (please make sure that it’s grade B)
½ teaspoon of Cayenne pepper

All you have to do is to mix all these ingredients in a 2-liter jug that you can take anywhere. This will be your liquid food for the whole day. And again, don’t worry because you will not get hungry, you will not experience the usual cravings that go with other diet programs and best of all, you will have all the energy that you’ll need to accomplish all your work for the whole day because of the Maple syrup. I want to stress that Grade B Maple syrup is the one that you’ll need. Please use these specified ingredients, no substitutes.

About the importance of the saltwater flush or the diuretic tea, since you will not be eating anything, you might not be able to eliminate the toxins if you won’t add these to the Master Cleanse. I chose to do the saltwater flush not only because I have done it before, but also because I think it is safer. But you can also opt to take the diuretic tea.

For the saltwater flush, every morning before taking the lemonade, prepare about 1 liter of warm water and add a teaspoon of rock salt to it. Drink it up and walk around so that it goes all the way down faster. The saltwater will not be absorbed by your body due to its density, it will go straight towards your large intestines taking with it the toxins that are lodged there.

A few days within the Master Cleanse program, you will notice that your tongue will be coated with a thick, white covering. It is proof that Master Cleanse is working. Continue on for a minimum of 10 days or until the white covering on your tongue disappears.

Email me for your results or for any questions.

Old Wives' Tale or Not?

This article was sent to me by email. There wasn't any mention of who the author is. I just thought of posting it here because it is worth sharing. Whoever the author is, thanks to you.

A friend of mine told me a story about how when he was a kid he was in the hospital & near dying. His Italian grandmother came to the hospital & told a family member to go buy her a large onion & a new pair of white cotton socks. She sliced the onion open then put a slice on the bottom of each of his feet & put the white cotton socks on him. In the morning when he awoke they removed the socks. The slices of onion were black & his fever was gone. The following story that someone sent to me might have some truth in it & we are going to try it this winter.

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ. She said that several years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work.. (And no, she is not in the onion business.)

The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under your desk or even on top somewhere. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.

If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the better. If you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case..

Whatever, what have you to lose? Just a few bucks on onions!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions:

Weldon, thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmers story...but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia and needless to say I was very ill...I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put one end on a fork and then place the forked end into an empty jar...placing the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs...sure enough it happened just like that...the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

It is worth trying, right? You have nothing to lose but the flu. I have also read somewhere that onions really absorb bacteria. This could be one of the best natural cures.

Yoga Study Proves Efficacy for Chronic Pain Sufferers by Rachel Stockton rachels at foodconsumer dot org

A new study out of West Virginia University is spotlighting the effects of yoga as an alternative to traditional medicine. The surprise is that yoga seems to have proven itself not only as a preventive mechanism, but as a remedy for pain after injury has occurred.

Study lead Kimberly Williams randomly selected 43 chronic back pain sufferers to take part in a 90 minute yoga class for 24 weeks. Another set of 47 back pain sufferers received traditional medical attention.

The results are impressive; many yoga participants were able to reduce the amount of pain medication they were taking. They reported significantly less functional disability, overt pain, and symptoms of depression than did the control group.

While yoga practitioners the world over have been touting the positive benefits of yoga with regards to back pain, many traditional medicine proponents were skeptical of their optimism. This study, maintains Williams, is one of the most expansive to date and gives credibility to this particular form of alternative medicine.

As for its effect on depression, yoga practitioners have maintained that the practice itself goes beyond mere physicality. Cindee Joslin, yoga practitioner and instructor in Northwest Arkansas encourages her students to bring their entire being "to the mat," assuring them that more will be revealed if they are patient and willing to fully engage in the practice - not a whole lot to ask for such life changing benefits.

Natural methods are indeed more effective and beneficial than conventional methods. Yoga affects the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual dimensions of human beings.

Maintain Your Health with Ginger, by Adrian Baume L.Ac., citizen journalist

(NaturalNews) Ginger has been cultivated and taken as a medicinal by numerous cultures for thousands of years to address symptoms such as upset stomach or nausea, to expel cold from the body and to stop a cough. In addition, recent studies have confirmed and expanded our understanding of this herb's healing abilities, including ginger's ability to protect the stomach lining and inhibit the secretion of gastric acid. Ginger's botanical name is Zingiber officinale, with the genus name Zingiber deriving from a Sanskrit word meaning "horn-shaped" in reference to the shape of the protrusions on the ginger rhizome. While the exact origins of Ginger are not known, we do know that it has been cultivated in China and India for millennia, and it reached the West over two-thousand years ago.

Numerous studies have demonstrated ginger's anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger's nausea-reducing actions are attributed to its ability to increase digestive fluids, as well as neutralize stomach acid and toxins. Ginger has been shown to increase the action and tone of the bowels, as well as increase bile secretion. Ginger also reduces the stickiness of blood platelets, and may therefore help reduce one's risk of atherosclerosis.

It is interesting to note, too, that ginger has been employed in Chinese herbal medicine for thousands of years due to its numerous beneficial properties. Called Sheng-jiang in the Chinese pharmacopoeia, ginger used alone as a single herb is considered to alleviate nausea, dispel pathogens by inducing sweating, expel cold, as well as stop coughing and reduce excess phlegm in the lungs.

In Chinese herbal medicine, Sheng-jiang, or fresh ginger, is considered to have very different properties than Gan-jiang, or dried ginger. Gan-jiang is useful for "cold" pain of the stomach and abdomen, diarrhea due to "cold" in the abdomen, cough, and rheumatism, among other uses. Dried ginger has also been shown to inhibit vomiting.

Additionally, fresh ginger is considered in Chinese herbal medicine to have a moderating or detoxifying effect on other more harsh herbs. For this reason, ginger is found as a component of many different Chinese herbal formulas (clusters of herbs combined together for their overall synergistic effects) for the treatment of symptoms ranging from the common cold, to allergic rhinitis, influenza, chronic nephritis, headache, and chronic laryngitis. It should be noted that ginger won't directly treat the symptoms listed above unless combined with other herbs in the proper formula for an individual patient's particular case.

A recent study published in Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine concluded that ginger protects the gastric mucosa from stress-induced mucosal lesions and inhibits gastric acid secretion, due in part to inhibiting growth of h. pylori as well as offering anti-oxidant protection against gastric damage. This seems to clearly confirm the popular use of ginger in Ayurvedic, eastern, and folk medicine traditions for its medicinal properties.

Ginger is a very versatile household ingredient. TCM practitioners usually advise to drink it as tea. Tea preparation is easy, just boil a pound ginger in enough water and that's it. Honey may be added as sweetener and taste enhancer.

Wellness 101: What is Spiritual Wellness? by Allie Mendoza, SF Wellness Examiner

Spiritual wellness is one of the seven dimensions of wellness. It involves one’s belief system and sense of connection with something beyond oneself.

Spiritual wellness is about finding meaning and purpose in life. It involves mindfulness as well as appreciation and acceptance of life. Spiritual wellness can be experienced and achieved in many ways: through meditation, religion, music, art, literature, nature and through connections with loved ones and other people in the community.

Spiritual wellness is closely intertwined with emotional, physical and mental wellness. There are physiological, emotional and mental effects of spiritual practices. For example, meditation can affect mood and stress -- studies have shown that it can increase levels of feel-good serotonin and endorphins as well as decrease stress-associated cortisol, blood pressure and heart rate.

Spiritual practices can help in integrating wellness of the mind, body and spirit. By developing spiritual rituals or habits, one can boost spiritual wellness which can help in making deeper connections with loved ones and others.

Spiritual practices can provide healing and wellness. It can help in dealing with difficulties and heartaches as well as things that are beyond one’s control. It can help in finding insights and inspirations as well as serenity, peace and contentment.

Achieving spiritual wellness is an ongoing process of making choices towards a healthy and fulfilling life. The choices one makes in terms of spirituality can contribute to overall wellness or illness.

By achieving spiritual wellness, one can fully experience the depth of beauty, joy and love in one’s life.

I always believed that being spiritual is outside of being religious. It may simply be a quiet time for yourself, looking deep within and listening to your Higher Self. It may be just letting your body obey your mind, then having your mind submit to your soul and then letting your soul be directed by the spirit. It's part of each person's evolution.

Indeed, spiritual practices can aid in wellness and healing in a sense that it unloads us of unwanted baggage, inner strife, struggles, past hurts and other negative stuff. It brings us to a higher plane of awareness.
