Recent celebrity deaths of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett have brought to the public's awareness the methods of Western medical treatment that these stars were receiving. Fawcett, after being diagnosed with anal cancer, received chemotherapy. Jackson, a celebrity with a variety of rumored health problems, was taking several prescription medications including painkillers and medications typically prescribed for anxiety and depression. Jackson had developed a friendship with alternative medicine and spirituality guru Deepak Chopra, M.D., who has now shared public comments about his unsuccessful efforts to encourage Jackson to confront his prescription drug addictions.
In the case of Fawcett, she had been receiving chemotherapy treatment in America and had traveled to Germany to receive alternative therapies such as natural supplements and herbal immune-boosting therapy, according to an article at WebMD.
The German physician reported that Fawcett had done well with care there, having shown a decrease in tumor size and improved quality of life over two and a half years. However, while in the USA she could not receive the treatments offered at the German clinic, and was only receiving treatment from the American doctors at the time of her death. Fawcett's American doctor acknowledged on the NBC Today Show that Fawcett had become weak, in part due to the effects of chemotherapy. Thus, the public doesn't know whether her deterioration was due more to the cancer progression or to the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is known to weaken the immune system and promote future cancers, so its use alongside immune boosting therapies may limit their effectiveness.
Michael Jackson, consuming multiple medications including ones with known cardiovascular side effects, had failed to address his deep emotional wounds and insecurities, and like the surgically altered face he presented, his medicines merely masked the troubled psyche of the man consuming them. Even with access to one of America's most knowledgeable and acclaimed holistic physicians, Michael Jackson failed to get the help that may have allowed him to heal his soul, instead opting to be treated by doctors who made a profit from enabling Michael's addiction. In the case of both celebrities, there was access to more natural, non-toxic treatments, yet each chose to allow themselves to be subjected to hazardous drugs that wreaked havoc upon their bodies.
People have their own free will to choose the path that they tread. It's only now that more and more people are learning about the benefits of going natural. It's not quite easy for others though who have relied and believed in Western medicine all their lives. For them, it is their comfort zone. It's not really easy to try something new especially if it goes against what you firmly believe in. Education and information is the key here. We can never force or coerce people to believe in what we do. However, we have a social responsibility of giving them sound and accurate information. It's still going to be their decision though and we have to respect that.

Healing with numbers By : SUZANNA PILLAY
Lenis says numerology can help people identify their true talents.
Numerology is a New Age tool that can be used to achieve wellness and true potential, says a Kodiko numerologist. SUZANNA PILLAY finds out more.
IT’S hard to think of something like numerology being able to affect your wellbeing, but Dr Dimitrios Lenis is adamant that Kodiko numerology is a powerful new age tool for total mind and body wellness.
Renowned as Asia’s master of numerology with followers from Taiwan, Hong Kong and many other Asian countries, Lenis is a nutritionist and chiropractor and is also highly regarded in the field of natural healing.
He uses Kodiko numerology to identify peoples’ psychological and emotional types to reveal their mind-body and mind-diet issues, which then tells him the right combination of diet, exercise or other therapies required to solve their problems.
Lenis was in Kuala Lumpur recently to conduct a workshop to help participants understand their personality and emotional state, learn about compatibility, identify new opportunities and how to avoid negative influences that distract them from achieving their true purpose.
He found much of what he was taught at school “had little effect, so I started developing more intensive techniques and eventually created a system of healing that requires therapy on three levels: Mind, Diet, and Body.”
If Kodiko sounds like Greek to you, it is. It is based on a philosophy created 2,500 years ago by the ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician, Pythagoras.
“He believed that all things in nature had specific frequencies which influenced each other and numerology was the language in which their influences was expressed. Numerology was a method of seeing everything in the world in terms of numbers to reveal the invisible influences of things.”
“Kodiko” means secret code in Greek and is a system Lenis developed over the last 20 years from researching Pythagoras’s ideas of using numbers to understand the influence of all things in our environments.
“This allows us to know ourselves on all levels including psychological, spiritual, emotional, nutritional, physical, etc. The idea has been proven by modern physics and these mostly invisible and inaudible frequencies can and do affect us,” said Lenis.
This, he explained, is why for example the energy produced by our mobile phones or the electromagnetic fields produced by electronic circuits can affect health and has been proven to do so negatively in some studies.
Unfortunately, over the last few 100 years, Pythagoras’s philosophy was corrupted, causing numerology to become a type of superstition.
“People started believing that their names or their birthdays determined their fate. It is absurd to believe that every person in the world born on the same day will have the same personality or even that all twins have the same personality because it is simply not true.
“However, it can be said that having a specific birthday will bring some influence just as listening to music can change the way we feel. But it is only one small part. We also need to look at the person, his interests, his way of dressing and grooming, his ethnic and religious background, whether he was the first, second, third, etc, child, and many more things. Then we combine all these influences to identify personality types, talents, weaknesses, etc.”
He said numerology could help people identify their true talents and what careers would fully utilise their skills... making each day at work fun and exciting, and so minimising stress.
“Stress is the biggest factor in causing a break down of health. There are many types of stress that can hurt you, but two of the worst include being stuck in a job you don’t like or having bad relationships with others.
“To live a truly sustainable lifestyle, you need to not only eat and exercise correctly, but you need to have a career that you love. You need to wake up every morning and feel excited about going to work! If you are not happy about the way you spend every day, you will age quickly and your immune system will be weak, eventually causing you to develop any number of dangerous diseases,” he says.
Lenis said this was probably the most important aspect of sustainable living and why he developed Kodiko numerology. “When you do what you love in life, eat the right foods and do the right exercises for your body and psychological type, you have a truly sustainable life.”
He believes the way to stay healthy comes down to three things: mind, body and diet.
1. Mind includes psychological health, feeling happy in your career, having healthy emotional status, healthy relationships and clear life goals and or a spiritual reason for living.
2. Diet includes getting enough pure water and air, eating the right foods, avoiding allergy foods and toxins and getting enough sun exposure on your skin.
3. Body includes getting good quality sleep, getting enough exercise that develops muscles throughout your body, a healthy sex life, getting regular massages, hugs from people you love and plenty of laughter!
This is sound advice and another alternative healing method that's worth trying.

Medical intuitives and energy healers; a growing phenomenon in wellness by Roger Ziegler, NY Wellness Examiner
Medical intuitives like Arly Fox-Daly, "read"
a person's energy field to dianose mental, physical
and spriritual causes of illness and disease.Medical intuitives and energy healers are becoming increasingly popular as "go to" people for mind, body, spirit healing and wellness.
It is a non-invasive treament that diagnoses mental and physical dis-ease by tapping the power of intuition and higher insight to bring healing and wholeness to clients.
Medical intuitives and energy healers read a person's energetic field - the total output of mental and physical energy best known in the West by the Chinese term - chi, and suggest corrective courses of action.
Some energy workers are also medical doctors, others Ph.d's or massage therapists, psychologists, etc.
Allopathic Medicine vs. Holistic Medicine
Traditional allopathic medicine, i.e Western/scientific medicine, tends to view illness as something that happens to you, either because of viruses or genetics and as something that needs to be "fixed.," often with drugs.
Holistic medicine takes a much broader overview that illness is the result of psychological and emotional states that affect the natural balance of a person's physical and energy bodies.
As medical intuitive and author Carol Ritberger says, "illness is the soul's way of bringing attention to the obstacles blocking the evolutionary process."
The medical intuitive discerns these obstacles and patterns and brings them to the attention of the client so they can make positive life changes.
With this in mind I contacted medical intuitive Arly Fox-Daly who works in New York City and the tri-sate area, to find out first hand what's it all about.
The result: It was like four years of life college in a two hour session. I laughed, I cried, it was better than Billy Elliott.
My session with Fox-Daly was, without exaggeration, life changing. I "woke up" to stuff I had kind of sort of already known about that needed changing, but when presented back to me in her clear, direct and compassionate manner, made them much clearer and much more urgent.
Archangels, star charts and lemon oil
Unless you’re familiar with past lives, star charts and channeling of the archangels, her methods may sound unusual, they did to me and I know a lot about this stuff.
And yet the experience rang completely true and blew me away so many times that, by the end, I felt like Sonoran sand in a wind storm.
After an initial phone consultation, I met Fox-Daly, who is also a licensed massage therapist and NLP practitioner, a week later in a non-descript office in the west village.
FD said she would not be doing medical intuition on me, but suggested instead I stand a few feet away from her so she could “read” my energy and report what she found.
“I just get the messages, like a though,t and speak or act them. You may hear me using your words,” she said.
Ok, fine. I went in willing to be open to whatever. I put the skeptic outside the room for now and just decided to let it flow.
Being a general in a past life
FD began with a brief centering ritual that involved breathing exercises and connecting to the larger Universe and her spirit guides.
“The first word I’m getting is ‘protection,’ does this mean anything to you?” I tried to stay as non-committal as possible, I didn’t want to influence the proceedings.
“You need to feel protected, you also are willing to cut people’s heads off” and she started making a chopping motion with her hands. “You were a general once, maybe World War I? You tank rolled over people.”
In my mind, I was thinking, "ok, but this stuff could apply to anyone.."
As she continued to get more detailed however, it seemed she knew me pretty damn well. At times she seemed as amazed as I was as to what was she was relating to me.
When she talked my relationship issues with my wife, I cried. She was dead on about our communications issues and what needed to be done to correct them. Not bad for never having met my wife.
And whether or not I was literally a general in a past life or this was more metaphorical for now, and who knows, certainly a billion Buddhists and Hindus will attest to the past life reality, it is true that I've been accused in this life of emotionally tank rolling over people.
Women in past relationships have accused me of being "forceful," “dictatorial," an emotional “bin-Laden” and “the American Psycho” (great movie by the way).
Now I only cut people's heads off emotionally, so I guess that's progress.
Fox-Daly also confirmed it is my path to know the pains of love so I can help others through it too.
The skeptic speaks
A cynic might say, “well she’s just really good at reading people.” Or, “she said general things until she hit upon stuff you agreed with.” Fine, if that’s all that happened, then she is still an excellent reader of people and her insights are exceptional.
But based on my own personal experience, I am happy to accept a combination that she is a keen reader and a channel for a larger energy. And that we all have this latent ability to varying degrees.
For me, a good healer like a good artist, is present to what already is and allows it to flow through; is a channel for a Bigger awareness.
Fox-Daly charges on a sliding scale for students and those with demonstrated need. Most sessions run about an hour.
It is really amazing how energy healing and alternative therapies work.

Eastern and Western explanations for how acupuncture works by Jeanne Grunert, Norfolk Alternative Medicine Examiner
Acupuncture works, but Eastern and Western medicine explain how it works a bit differently.
Eastern medicine and the balance of yin and yang
Traditional Chinese medicine believes that health and wellness are obtained when the two opposing energy forces in the body, yin and yang, are in balance with one another. According to this theory, acupuncture works by altering the balance between ying and yan. By inserting needles at meridian points on the body and manipulating them or applying heat, the energy flows may be released or altered. Traditional Chinese medicine asserts that qi, or energy, along with blood must flow freely. When it is blocked, disease may result. Acupuncture works, according to this theory, by releasing qi and improving blood flow. The body can then heal itself and achieve a state of equilibrium or balance.
Western medicine believes it's all about endorphins
Acupuncture came ashore in America sometime in the 1950's and 1960's, gaining prominent in the early 1970's from a reporter's article on the subject. Since then, countless researchers, doctors and scientists have tried to explain how acupuncture works according to the Western understanding of human anatomy and healing.
One primary explanation for how acupuncture works is that it releases endorphins and other naturally occurring painkillers in the body. The human body makes endorphins to block pain and discomfort. Acupuncture is thought to stimulate the production of these chemicals, along with myriad others responsible for regulating the nervous system. This may also account for acupuncture's ability to treat depression, addiction, and mental states as well as pain; it may be altering the body's natural chemistry without the use of pharmaceutical drugs.
Many theories, no one answer
Like most alternative medicine, there are many theories but no one answer as to how and why acupuncture works. That it does work is pretty much a given, although it may not work for everyone. Animal studies demonstrate its effectiveness as well as countless human studies and anecdotal reports. Whether it releases naturally occurring brain chemicals or qi, acupuncture appears to be a relatively safe method of pain control as well as helpful to other conditions.
Well, the important thing is that it has been proven to work for so many years. Best of all, it's natural.
